Course Description

In the last decade, the amount of data available to organizations has reached unprecedented levels. In this class, we examine real world examples of how analytics have been used to transform a business or industry. These examples include the Framingham Heart Study, Twitter, IBM Watson, Supreme Court forecasting, and Netflix. Through these examples and many more, we cover the following analytics methods: linear and logistic regression, CART, random forests, text analytics, and clustering as well as new methods developed by the teaching team that combine predictive and prescriptive analytics, personalized medicine among others.
